A is an Indian electronics brand that is partly owned by B. A was founded in December 2014, and is a joint venture between B and the open-source community developer C. A, and by extension B, officially hold the rights for C's mobile platform D in India.

B's exclusive rights to distribute D-powered devices in India led them to file an injunction with the Delhi High Court which resulted in the temporary ban on E to sell their sole "flagship" device the F in India in the mid-to-late December of 2014.

After the ban was lifted, E began work on their custom ROM G that would run on their subsequent batches of F, and their next-generation device, the H.

E was founded in December 2013 by former vice-president of I, J. E released their first device the F in the April 2014. The rights to sale of this device in India were given exclusively to the world e-commerce giant K.

Given the relatively small-size of E and their limited production capacity and marketing budget, the F promoted itself by campaigns encouraging people to smash their old phones on video, or the extremely short-lived "Ladies First" campaign.

F, however, was not the only device to be banned by the Delhi High Court at that time, as only some days prior, the sale of L-powered devices of M, originating from the same country as E, were similarly banned on grounds of patent infringements by the Swedish telecom giant N.

  18. Amit Kumar is actually right I guess. Qualcomm based devices were allowed to be sold as they had proper licences. The devices which were MediaTek based were banned.

U can find it in the second paragraph after Hugo Barra's msg...

  19. Read the news articles dated from December of 2014. Both MediaTek and Qualcomm chipset configuration devices were banned on grounds of patent infringement at that time. Some days later, Delhi HC allowed the Qualcomm devices to be sold on a pro tem basis only until the next hearing in January, at which point another temporary relief was granted and another court date set, continue recursively.
Pedantically speaking and looking for one answer, as would now be the case, "similarly banned" devices would be the ones that were banned temporarily, read reference to the OPO ban. Hence the answer Qualcomm still stands for L. Quizmaster's discretion ceases this matter at hand.
