the connect is Operation Eagle Claw... This operation was ordered by US President Jimmy carter to rescue some American diplomats held captive at the embassy in Tehran, Iran... It was carried out by the Delta force and during the mission the forces had to encounter a haboob, a type of a sand storm...

The eight helicopters were sent inout of which two helicopters could not navigate through a very fine sand cloud (a haboob) which forced one helicopter to crash land and the other to return to the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN-68).
