SS Super Sunday #3 : 'Hits and Misses'

Identify A-Z, scoring 3 points each. Get all correct to win an added bounty of 20 points.

The equivalent of the 'oros rey' from a Spanish Baraja deck in the conventional Anglo-French deck of cards is said to be dedicated to A, a pivotal character in history. A is credited with his own encryption technique, which when applied to B in a base 2 gives 'JKVNGT'. B was seen to meet an alternative fate in the 2009 movie C, named after a 1978 macaroni combat film, and directed by D. D helped a previously lesser known actor E win a couple each of Oscars, BAFTA as well as Golden Globe awards through back-to-back iconic roles in C and F. The same role in C had originally been offered to G, which perhaps would have rendered a particular batch of internet memes non-existent.

Identify the 4 images above as H, I, J and K respectively (clockwise from top left). Connect the 4 laterally to B. The connect will give you L.

The most successful big-screen depiction of A occured way back in 1953, which starred M, one of the most influential actors of all time, in the critical non-title role of N. M went on to play O, one of the greatest movie characters of all time in a subsequent movie P. O was largely based on real-life Q, and was later portrayed by R in the forthcoming movies of the series. M's influence on modern cinema is clearly visible in the fact that his apparent retirement in 1980 led to a song being composed by S. O inspired a subsequent character T, debuting in a comic series by famous artist and writer U, and subsequently in the movie V.

A was well known for his escapades outside marriage, most notably with W, the last major active pharaoh of Egypt. He also had a lesser known fling with a member of a prominent house, whose son X, popularly believed to be A's offspring, later plotted in A's own death. X along with Y waged a short-lived war for supremacy after A's demise against N and Z, leading to subsequent defeat.

DT #633 Parallelism

The recent movie "300: Rise of an Empire" has been described as a X to the film "300". This is primarily because the events in both the movies run mostly parallel to each other. Thus, it cannot be described as either a sequel or a prequel.

Some even term the 2012 movie "The Bourne Legacy" as a X to the previous movie "The Bourne Ultimatum" because parts of the former take place at the same time as the latter.

Identify X.

QFW 4 - Fashion Finale

This is the last post for QFW and it has been a great series of fashion quizzing. It made me realise there is quizzing in every category possible. Scoreboard looks all tied up at the moment. [If there are any scoring errors, please comment and tell us]. So, this post should serve as a cool tiebreaker with 100 points. No wonder than that some connects might seem a bit cryptic or on multiple levels too. We saw some new people giving answers on our questions and that's what this series was meant for. Great going. Now, to see who comes out on top, answer these:

1.  Connect. [30 points] Full description shall be most appreciated. :)

2.  This dress needs the model to strip down to bare naked and was made famous by the supermodel Giselle Bundchen. To create the dress, the company used simulation and rendering softwares like Maya. Name the dress. [10 points]

3.  Two fashion houses lost similar battles against these 2 companies [logos given]. Id the two fashion houses and the reason. [10 points]

4.  Connect to a brand. [30 points]

5. Connect to a celebrity. [20 points]

After the 4 posts of QBIT Fashion Week, as per the points tally, gold goes to abhishek, silver to vendetta and bronze to DJ! Woohoo! And as always, well done to whoever answered!
For this post particularly, the answers I was looking for were:
1. Adidas:
Adidas bought Reebok, who's original logo was the Union Jack along with the text Reebok. The characteristic 3-stripes logo of Adidas was bought from a little known Finnish company called Karhu (which means bear in Finnish) for I think 1600 dollars and 2 bottles of whiskey. Adidas has a close relationship with the band Run DMC and it also produces a Starship Trooper among other versions of Star Wars special merchandise.

2. Water Dress

3. Louis Vuitton and Dolce & Gabbana for the domain names lv.com and dg.com

4. Brook Brothers. Quoting Aprajita here, "The Brooks brother Luxottica owns this brand. Barack Obama wore their brand's clothes on the inauguration day. In the movie up in the air George Clooney wore suits of this brand. And for the oscars the brooks brothers clothed the young stars of the movie slumdog millionaire."

5. Jennifer Aniston:
She has been the brand embassador of Loreal Elvive and started off with a permanent character in the TV Show Molly. Her haircut in early seasons of Friends got famous as the Rachel Haircut (Here shown Geri Willis sporting the look). Her fragrance is called Lolavie and she dated John Mayer.
