The Last Review

I write today in hope that I will write next time, prouder than I am today. In 2 semesters, we've seen a lot of quizzes, most of them being General with one mega Cricket and a Business quiz. So far, we've given out a tremendous amount of prize money by our own standards and we've worked hard and long for all this. But, what really amazes me is the response you sometimes get, the slight nod and a hello while you walk, the "Ah" and "Oh" when you tell them the answer, the punch fist when they get it right and then the polite question: "Agla kab hai?". This is what keeps us going and I think I speak for all of us when I say: Its only gonna get better next year!

I still remember Ashwin, the brilliant host, Tanmay, the brilliant teammate, PK the brilliant quizzer and Sneha, the brilliant senior. But most of all, all of them being brilliant friends! I wish you guys come down and see a quiz by us. Or better, make one for us!

Talking about today's quiz, it was a regular affair at H6. Had to do a bit of round-up for the people in their rooms as somehow they didnt know about the quiz happening, but we started with a good 44 in the end. We were afraid 42 questions might be too much for them, but I don't think it bothered them. Here are the results:

1. Raikom and Rahul (2k9)
2. Shikhar & Milan (2k10)
3. Vishesh & Waquar (2k10) tied with Asad & Asram (2k10)

For the first time, we had the same quiz held in H8 by Sneha from 2k10 itself. As per my last conversation, there were around 30 girls in the common room! Imagine 30 girls quizzing at the same time! Where have you seen it?! I am yet to receive much information about the quiz in H8. I'll write a review for that as soon as I get it.

Here is the link for the quiz with answers:

Hopefully, next week, we start with our new format of quizzing - Quark Quiz.
Happening every week at the OC, some will volunteer to make the quiz. No monetary prizes here for winning, just for fun and the spirit. We should be having a notice in a few days for that with the required artwork[:)]. Those interested and dependable, please contact us soon!

Thank you so much!

Qricket Review

For some reason, this review seems hard to write. Not that I don't remember the details, coz
believe me, this quiz will be embedded deep in my memory. Why?

1. I remember Debjit and Pranshumaan giving us the idea about this quiz few weeks back and I liked the idea at first. But, somehow it seemed "un-do-able". Then, seeing their enthusiasm, I got excited too and we ended up making 5 rounds! Everyday, they came to my room where we made the ppts, just sat behind me while I dragged the pics around and the discussions turned from minutes to hours, going past dinners. It was unbelievable.
2. The amount of hassle in getting the permissions for organising will not be forgotten. To sum it up, here's a message I had sent to Debjit when I was on the verge breakdown:
"There needs to be a bloody guidebook for permissions in this college.
I just got a permission to get a permission!
INCEPTION!"

3. Qricket was planned to be the last quiz in CAT by us this semester. ANd we wanted to end it on a high. So, we hiked the prize money from 3 to 5k and changed a few questions. This quiz was not going to be a publicity stunt or "just another quiz".

4. All this paid off when I took the mic to address the crowd of around 150-160, all huddled up together in the audi, missing their evening snacks after a gruelling day of classes and labs. And all this for a quiz? In our college, where till last year, if you said "I quiz", you'd get shunned as if you're supporting England?! Believe it or not, I will upload some hazy pics from Debjit's cellphone when the internet allows me to do so here.

5. It was a cricket quiz! We love cricket! Even more so at the moment. So, the "chance pe dance" had to pay off. And it did! I found it a great way to celebrate the World Cup in India! As for the quiz, it went smoothly. I had gotten a spare projector in case the one in the audi gave up on us like last time. But, we didnt need it. No errors in timing, buzzer, scoring or the presentation. Smooth as it could have been!

Prelim cutoff went up to 11 with highest score being 14. The stage consisted of 3 2k7 teams, 2 from 2k8 and 1 from 2k9.
Results:
1. Kunal & Nikhil by a good margin of 55 points.
2. Saptarishi & Pushkar
3. Varun & Akshay
All from 2k7. Congratulations guys! I hope you remember this quiz after you pass out. :)

The teams that didnt make it to the top 3 to get the cash prizes were
Sparsh & Vivek (2k8), Vinit & Ankit(2k8) and Rahul & Vivek (2k9). Well done to them for being such great sports and giving us a splendid show!

The slideshare links to the ppts will be posted soon. As per last count, the ppts have been download 41 times from DC. I wish those 40 were there in the quiz instead!

We're really honoured to have gotten so far in 1 year. A lot has changed for QBIT and I think it mostly has been good. 6 total quizzes with around 380 questions asked, a steady group of quizzers following us and an increasing number of participation makes it evident. But, our job isn't even  half done. A lot to do over the next two semesters and a lot to expect from the 2k11 batch. I sign off here with immense satisfaction and hope we can get even better next time around! Thank you!

Quiz Generalis - Review [Finally!]

First things first,
QBIT BLOG : qbitmesra.blogspot.com became 2 years old! Definitely one 5th of Nov worth remembering! And Prabhakhar, a.k.a. Ignoramus is celebrating his birthday too!
Happy Birthday to all! Cheers!

With 107/108 Google followers and 300-something fans on Facebook, still, we say there is a long way to go. Quizzing is changing dheere-dheere in BIT. And, QBIT intends to lead the way. Exams are around the corner again. So, sadly, quizzing will have to take a back-seat again till December.

Forgive me for being so late [2 whole weeks to be precise] in posting a review of the CAT quiz and the results. Terribly busy I have been with random stuff. Not too late...its never too late...

QBIT's first quiz for the semester, Quiz Generalis, took place on 31st Oct, 2010, at BIT Mesra. Tata Steel came along with its internship test the same day. So, Vulcan, Atticus and Utsavius were missing. Cryogenic had just returned from Mumbai from AQ regional finals (He came 3rd! Congratulations!) We began the prelims nonetheless which went off smoothly. Sizeable crowd considering it was Sunday morning! [Note 1]. With a cutoff of 8 on tiebreaker with 3 teams, we had 6 teams of 2 on stage for the final 4 rounds. Atticus and Utsavius returned by then.
Some glitches with the presentation saw some answers being revealed. However, they were quickly replaced. [Note 2] No problems there. Rest of the rounds were perfect.
Sadly, the buzzer failed to respond due to some voltage drop we forgot about. :( So that round was scrapped. Challenge round was exciting with passed questions being answered superbly by some. And the scoring style ensured the best teams were on top. Few audience prizes (CP-Amul vouchers) were given out too.
With 6K given out as prize money, the quizzers were elated. The crowd was happy. And thus, we were too.

Final standings :

1. Akshay Singh Thakur & Anjneya Varshney (2k7)

2. Siddharth Saha & Manish Kumar Verma (2k7)

3. Debjit Roy & Gaurav Kumar (2k9)

4. Aditya Tyagi & Ketan Vatsalya (2k10)

5.  [I AM SORRY I FORGOT WHO CAME 5TH]

6. Vishesh Shrivastava & Waquar Ahmed (2k10)

Best Girl's Team : Divya Jaiswal & Estee Joe Mathew
BEST 2k10 Team : Aditya Tyagi & Ketan Vatsalaya

I hope I didnt commit any spelling mistakes or any error in the standings.
The presentations have been uploaded on Slideshare for all of you to see. They are downloadable as well. If you have feedback, please comment on this post.

We witnessed some great quizzing that Sunday and hope the turnout will be better for our next quiz. We have to ponder over some issues which will be sorted out. Till then, Happy Quizzing! Happy PL to people at BIT. Happy Sunday to the rest. And Happy Birthday to us!
