BIT Mesra & Marchahead presents MYSTIQUE!

We nurtured a dream for almost 3 years...waiting for the right opportunity, but mostly being lazy. :P But, we think the time has come to bring forth all our ideas that we have kept hidden for so long. We proudly present:
The Online Cryptic Treasure Hunt

For those who are unaware, an online cryptic treasure hunt is a sort of a game, that tests trivia, puzzle solving and lateral thinking. Mystique has 30 levels of questions/puzzles that one needs to solve by entering the answer  in a box and move ahead till you solve all the levels. The difficulty obviously rises with each passing level and it then expands to include ciphers, hidden hints, URL changes, clues hidden in images, files and video.
Mystique launches at 8PM IST on 24th February 2012 @ http://www.bitotsav2012.in/mystique

We've partnered with Marchahead to design the levels. They're the creators of the super-succesful Cryptex 1, 2, 3 and 4 which was played by thousands of people across the world!
Mystique is a part of our annual fest Bitotsav and its the first time it is being hosted out here. But, the response it has gotten till now is phenomenal. 290 registrations from 57 colleges are done as I am typing this post and with 2 weeks still to go, this should cross 500.

Everyone here in Team Mystique is so bloody excited! We can't wait for it to start. Please register and play Mystique. We're sure you'll have an amazing time cracking the levels! Oh, and lets not forget the glorious prize money of Rs. 10k at stake for all this. Februrary doesnt get better than this!

The Last Review

I write today in hope that I will write next time, prouder than I am today. In 2 semesters, we've seen a lot of quizzes, most of them being General with one mega Cricket and a Business quiz. So far, we've given out a tremendous amount of prize money by our own standards and we've worked hard and long for all this. But, what really amazes me is the response you sometimes get, the slight nod and a hello while you walk, the "Ah" and "Oh" when you tell them the answer, the punch fist when they get it right and then the polite question: "Agla kab hai?". This is what keeps us going and I think I speak for all of us when I say: Its only gonna get better next year!

I still remember Ashwin, the brilliant host, Tanmay, the brilliant teammate, PK the brilliant quizzer and Sneha, the brilliant senior. But most of all, all of them being brilliant friends! I wish you guys come down and see a quiz by us. Or better, make one for us!

Talking about today's quiz, it was a regular affair at H6. Had to do a bit of round-up for the people in their rooms as somehow they didnt know about the quiz happening, but we started with a good 44 in the end. We were afraid 42 questions might be too much for them, but I don't think it bothered them. Here are the results:

1. Raikom and Rahul (2k9)
2. Shikhar & Milan (2k10)
3. Vishesh & Waquar (2k10) tied with Asad & Asram (2k10)

For the first time, we had the same quiz held in H8 by Sneha from 2k10 itself. As per my last conversation, there were around 30 girls in the common room! Imagine 30 girls quizzing at the same time! Where have you seen it?! I am yet to receive much information about the quiz in H8. I'll write a review for that as soon as I get it.

Here is the link for the quiz with answers:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1greu_1Zsu9p6xEzRSOrwdrpnTc1g5OnWbcMqkh0vPFo/edit?hl=en

Hopefully, next week, we start with our new format of quizzing - Quark Quiz.
Happening every week at the OC, some will volunteer to make the quiz. No monetary prizes here for winning, just for fun and the spirit. We should be having a notice in a few days for that with the required artwork[:)]. Those interested and dependable, please contact us soon!

Thank you so much!

Chakravyuh 3.0 - REVIEW

Quizzing in BIT is finally picking up pace as we witnessed last night an unprecedented audience. Atleast 48 teams vying for the stage rounds, I felt humbled by the presence of all of them, defying hunger, tire and cold to quiz!
Chakravyuh 3 was a success. In terms of crowd, response, lack of major mistakes, controversies and confusion, the quiz was smooth. The initial date of 20th Jan was changed to 21st as Leeds University occupied the auditorium unexpectedly. Keeping in mind the class timings of the juniors, the quiz was scheduled from 6 - 8.30PM.

Spread across a prelim round of 25 questions followed by 4 stage rounds, Chakravyuh 3 crowned these as the winners :

1st : Raikom Terang & Abhishek Kumar (2k9)
2nd : Debjit Roy & Pranshumaan (2k9)
3rd : Sneha Roy & Estee Joe Mathew (2k10)

A hearty congratulations to them, as well as the other two teams who couldnt figure on the podium but gave tough competition to the top 3 :
Milan Pandey & Shikhar Atri (2k10)
Chaudhary Abhineet Kr. Singh & Anurag Behera (2k7)
Well done all of you!

The quiz was spread out across a prelim of 25 questions, a mix of audio, video, images and text which set the bar for the rest of the evening, followed by 4 stage rounds.
1st round was called A Quiver Full of Arrows which constituted 10 straight questions. 2nd was named And Thereby Hangs a Tale, continuing on the Jeffery Archer novel naming series. This long connect round went un-cracked by the stage teams and Ajay Cyril cracked it first, sitting in the audience.
Then, as we realized we were running out of time, we sped things up from here. As we regrouped and discussed what do, Gautham confidently tested his buzzer, which he has designed from scratch and I am proud as I would ever be to say BIT had its first ever electronic buzzer round and it worked like a charm! Nervous fingers, exciting questions, quick reflexes all made this round my personal favorite! And, we called it First Among Equals...apt I suppose.
Last round was a new and innovative round called Not a Letter More, Not a Letter Less. It was basically a crossword with the clues as questions of the quiz. I hope this new concept was appreciated by all.
Final points tally was excruciatingly close with the winning team just 5 points ahead of the 2nd! The only girls team came back strong, after going for a 0 in the first and a negative in the 2nd round to finish 3rd overall!

As soon as the internet here gets even a bit faster, we will upload the ppt's on Slideshare for you too see if you missed it. Till then, we have shared the Chakravyuh folder on DC for everyone to download. We would love to read honest feedback from you. Infact, it is necessary to know how you felt about it. Only then will the quizzes get better right? So, comment on this post or share it on our wall  @ facebook.com/qbitmesra.

I wouldn't have to argue with a lot of people if I say Chakravyuh was a success. But, only because of the people who came, enthusiastic and supportive of us, when we goofed up so much in the last quiz. With a promise that more such enthralling evenings are yet to come, I end this review with a tired legs but a happy heart.
Thank you!

Not so daily Trivia!

This one is special. For a dear friend from our college. Lateral connect!
Hint : Father of the dead dog
Hey, sorry to those who commented to attempt this question. The answer is just "dalla" and you'd have to be in BIT Mesra 2k8 to understand it. This was just a little joke we played with our friend. Don't mind it. :)
