ReplyDeleteThe answer is Deus Ex machina, which is a plot device whereby a seemingly unsolvable problem in a story is suddenly and abruptly resolved by an unexpected and seemingly unlikely occurrence. Examples being the sudden arrival of the Eagles in LOTR or Knights of the Vale during the Battle of Bastards when the danger level is at its zenith. Deus Ex Machina literally means 'God from the Machine'.
